System Requirements

System Requirements for Users

What sort of system is required for your customers, salespeople, and others to use a configurator?

  • A modern web browser (such as Firefox, Chrome, or Edge).
  • An active internet connection.
  • If your user is an anonymous web user, browsing your configurator without being logged in or authenticated, then limited or no 3rd party cookies are required.

3D Scene Requirements for Users

  • WebGL required.
If your configurator uses a 3D scene, then your customer's device must be able to support 3D.  Called "WebGL", this is active by default in all modern web browsers. If in doubt, you can test for active WebGL on the device.
  • Performance varies.
Performance in rendering a 3D scene can be different from one device to another.  The frame rate can drop due to graphics cards, old graphics card drivers, memory, other applications currently running, and even the temperature of the device displaying the scene.  While many of these factors may be out of your control, you can minimize problems by optimizing your scene. • Augmented Reality limitations.
If you allow your 3D scene to appear in augmented reality, note the following. Some devices do not display augmented reality within the web browser. For example, Apple devices display AR in a native iOS application called Quick Look. When your user requests AR on an iOS device, we create an iOS-compatible model file and then their device opens the file with that special application. Your user is no longer in a web browser. Therefore...
    1. Snap code does not run while iOS is viewing the AR. Snap code requires a modern web browser.
    2. Hotspots do not render while iOS is viewing the AR. Hotspots require a layer over the scene, provided by modern web browsers.

To smooth the transition into and out of augmented reality for Apple device users, we recommend using the "XR Enter" and "XR Exit" scene rules to hide elements in the scene before their device enters AR, and restore them upon return from AR.

System Requirements for Administrators

Most Company Administrators do their work through the web, and simply require the same system as any other user.

However, some Company Administrators create or edit templates for output documents based on Word, Excel, or CAD files. For only these admins, and only to work on these templates, additional requirements are:

  • A workstation running the Windows operating system, version 10 or higher.
Windows can be running natively (on an Intel PC) or through emulation (on an Apple PC, using parallels desktop, for example).  If running an emulator, note the full Windows 10 or 11 OS with all suggested updates must be emulated.
  • For Word and Excel output document templates,
Microsoft Office must be installed locally on that Microsoft Windows workstation. The browser-based, online version of Word (as part of Office 365 or Microsoft 365) is not supported.  Learn more about Word output documents.
  • For CAD-based output document templates,
a supported CAD system must be installed locally on that Microsoft Windows workstation.  Learn more about CAD output documents.

System Requirements for Builder Machines

Some implementations of Epicor CPQ use "Output Builders" – always-on computers that are not used by people, but generate output documents from templates.

Most documents can be made using our cloud-based builders, but CAD documents require a local builder your company maintains. Learn more about the difference between cloud-based and local builders.

If your implementation includes a local builder computer which you maintain, that computer must meet these requirements:

  • An always-on computer, server, or virtual machine (VM) running the Windows operating system, version 10 or higher.
  • For CAD-based output documents which must be built on your own infrastructure due to licensing constraints from CAD software vendors, a supported CAD system must be installed locally on that Microsoft Windows computer, server, or VM.   CAD builders also have specific OS and network requirements
  • For Word and Excel output documents which you would prefer to build on your own infrastructure, instead of using our cloud builders, Microsoft Office must be installed locally on that Microsoft Windows computer, server, or VM. The browser-based, online version of Word (as part of Office 365 or Microsoft 365) is not supported.  Learn more about Word output documents.
