Understanding Word Outputs

Word outputs generate documents based on Microsoft Word documents. The most commonly used output type, Word outputs can generate just about any type of document, from invoices to installation manuals, using a template format that most businesspeople are familiar with editing.

After creating a word document, you map the dynamic data from output fields into the word template file as Content Controls.  The Capture Tool helps you with this task.

After your workflow uses a Word template to create a Word output file, you can easily convert that file into other formats, such as PDFs, by exporting the output.

Output Fields

The following output fields can be added or captured for a Word output:

Text for Word Outputs

This output field for Word documents inserts characters (text, numbers, symbols, and the like) into a Word template file at the location you specify.

Images for Word Outputs

Inserts an image into a Word template file

Containers for Word Outputs

Containers enclose sections of the document, allowing you to control when those sections are included or removed from the document.

Lists for Word Outputs

Inserts a list into a Word file, so you can dynamically create bullet lists, tables, and the like.

Localization

Once built, one output document can be localized into many output documents for many languages, as shown here.

Fonts

If you use an unusual font in your Word document, that font may not appear in your output document or in a PDF export of that document.  To fix, embed the .ttf font into the Word document.
