The Media folder is a single place to store all of your media assets, including images, videos, pdf's, etc. for use throughout Epicor CPQ. You can reference these assets in many places, including product images, outputs, and tables.
The media manager resembles a file manager, complete with folders to help organize, and controls to upload, delete, and rename resources.
Access the media folder by visiting the administrative interface link Resources > Media. Use the buttons at the bottom of the window to manage your media folder.
- To browse through all media, scroll through the thumbnails on screen or select a folder and click open to open that folder.
- To create a new media asset, use the upload button. A file browser window appears: select one or more files for upload, then click "open" to upload them. (To select multiple files in a file browser window, use SHIFT-CLICK or CMD-CLICK, depending on your operating system.)
- To create a new folder for organizing your assets, first browse to the location where you would like the folder to appear. Then use the add folder button.
- To delete a media asset or folder, use the delete button.
- To download a media asset, double-click the thumbnail of that asset. The original-sized media will either appear in your web browser for you to save to your computer, or it will be saved to your downloads folder for you, depending on your browser preferences. You can only download one media asset at a time.
- To rename an asset, use the rename button.
- If others have been working in this folder, you may not see the most recent changes. Click "refresh" to ensure your screen is updated.
- To move an asset, first click the asset to download it to your computer, and then upload it into the correct location. Note that moving any item in the media folder may break any links pointing to that asset.
Simple, short filenames are best. Longer filenames, or filenames that include double-byte characters or whitespace characters, can cause problems when they are expressed as a URL. For example, a filename of "Part154.gif" is reliable, but a filename of "引用1234 for customer use/only/Version Final Final (2).gif" may cause some filesystems to have an error. Keep it simple.
Renaming an item in the media folder, or moving its location from one subfolder to another, may break any links pointing to that asset.
Stay organized with your media files. Collaborate with other configuration engineers at your company, and settle on a policy. For example, try the following.
- Create one folder for images which have been approved by your marketing or technical groups for public use. Only move files into this folder when formally approved. This gives you and other configuration designers the confidence that they are using the correct media assets.
- Create a "scratch" or temporary folder for your personal use, usually named with your name, such as "Temp_JaneDoe". Place temporary or unapproved items in this folder to help with rapid prototyping. Before final testing, ensure your configurators, scenes, and output documents no longer refer to the unapproved contents of this folder. For example, you can rename this folder (from Temp_JaneDoe to Temp_JaneDoe_ToBeDeleted) and then test your configurator to find any missing images: these must be replaced with formally approved images.
